Education
Thomas was born and raised in the small town of Williston Park, NY. He lived there there for nearly 15 years, until the end of his Freshman year of high school at Kellenberg Memorial High School (Uniondale, NY). In 2012, Thomas and his family moved to Huntersville, NC, where he attended Christ the King Catholic High School.
Fast-Forward seven years: Thomas is now a graduate of Western Carolina University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) in Computer Information Systems within the College of Business, and has also earned his minor in Leadership within the College of Education and Allied Professions.
Professional Experience
Thomas’s first job in 2014 was working for his local Homegoods (TJX Companies) store. Initially, Thomas worked as a Floor Associate, helping tidy up the store before closing, and helping all customers as needed. Thomas eventually worked his way up to a Customer Service Associate, helping manage the Floor Team to ensure all tasks are being accomplished, and helping all customers (both in person and on the phone) with whatever they needed to ensure a positive shopping experience. Thomas left Homegoods in the Summer of 2015 for school, but would return as a seasonal associate until 2016.
Starting in the 2016-2017 academic year, Thomas worked on campus as a Campus Tour Guide (EnTOURage) for the Western Carolina Office of Undergraduate Admissions. On top of conducting campus tours, he also worked all university open house events, as well as had the opportunity to work with the school’s mascot, Paws, taking promotional pictures or videos for the office. At the end of his first year, Thomas was named “Most Outstanding EnTOURage” by his supervisors, and was elected by his peers to serve as Vice President for the 2017-18 academic year. This coming year (2018-19), Thomas will serve as the organization’s President.
During the Summer of 2018, Thomas interned with Atlas Copco as a Data Analyst for Edmac Compressor Parts. During this internship, Thomas analyzed the pricing structures for several of Edmac’s product segments, and helped them in adjusting their pricing to become more competitive in their open market sales. During this time, he primarily utilized Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other data analysis tools to help him craft his project.
Personal Life
One thing Thomas became passionate about as a youth, and still now as an adult, is Scouting. In the second grade, he joined the Cub Scouts as a Wolf Scout with Pack 311 in Williston Park, and knew very early on in his career that he wanted to stick with Scouting. He had great role-models in Scouting early on that helped him grow, and also set his ultimate goal of earning Eagle Scout. In 2008, he “crossed over” in Boy Scouts, and became a member of Troop 45 in Mineola, NY. It was there where he earned the rank of Star Scout, before leaving Troop 45 for Troop 87 in Uniondale, NY. With Troop 87, he earned the rank of Life Scout. At the end of that year is when Thomas moved, and, once again, changed troops. He joined Troop 97 in Huntersville, where he is still a member to this day.
In May, 2012, Thomas completed his Eagle Scout project at his high school, constructing a wetland rain-garden, using all plants native to North Carolina, not only beautifying the property, but also helping it utilize the natural resources around more efficiently. In September, Thomas had his Eagle Board of Review, and officially became an Eagle Scout. Through his last year of youth in the Boy Scouts, Thomas went on to earn three palms (Bronze, Gold, Silver), recognizing the additional merit badges he earned.
In addition to earning the Eagle Scout award, Thomas has also received over forty merit badges, the World Conservation Award, the Ad Altare Dei religious award, the Palisade Historic Trails award, and is an Ordeal member with the Order of the Arrow, Catawba Lodge 459.
Recognizing the importance for continued leadership, and giving back to the program, Thomas still serves as an adult leader with Troop 97, helping the youth of the troop ultimately achieve their goals.
Outside of Scouting, Thomas is a very big sports fan, and enjoys playing golf on the weekends with his Father, Brother, and Brother-in-Law, as well as playing pick-up games of softball, baseball, basketball, or football with his friends. You can also finding him cheering on his favorite teams: the New York Yankees (MLB), New York Jets (NFL), and New York Islanders (NHL).
